alette kalama sat in a splits position on the sidewalk in front of her quaint bohemian abode, staring at the asphalt before her. Sitting beside her was a bucket of sidewalk chalk, full of an assortment of pastels. This nineteen year old was about to plan the most epic game of hopskotch. None of that boring, blasé one through ten business, with the squares attached. No way. Alette was planning an intricate sidewalk maze, full of 360s and pirouettes. she stroked her chin with her hand, squinting her eyes as an indication of pure concentration. She paid little to no attention to the occasional cars passing by and the familiar joggers who waved hello. No, no, no. No social interaction before creating this spectacular layout for the most groovy, exhilirating game of hopskotch to slap ehu island in the face.
Alette grabbed a red piece of chalk from the clear, plastic bucket, and got on her knees, resting most of her weight on her knees and the left palm she had resting on the ground. With her free hand, she drew a circle on the ground. Inside it, she dress the number one. Alette tossed the red chalk to the side and grabbed a blue one from the bucket, with that, she drew and arrow. After tossing that to the grass beside her, alette grabbed a green piece of chalk. With that, she began to draw a spider web at the tip of the arrow. Inside it, she drew a thick number two with a purple piece of chalk. Diagonally above it, the brunette drew a swirl, like the ones you drew playing m*a*s*h to see how many things you skipped before eliminating one of the choices. Inside it, with a different color, she wrote 360! She giggled, and drew another arrow with the same color. trick move! she wrote. Alette drew a bunch of vertical dashes and then finished with a triangle (I.e. an arrow), and then drew the number three with a bunch of exclamation points around it.
And this was only the beginning of the maze!
She looked up at the sun, which hadn't left ehu for weeks other than when the moon came out. Alette hoped this sunny weather would continue, otherwise her beautiful hopskotch game would be ruined. But at the same time, she'd be so distraught if this island went through a drought. alette sat back down on her arse, resting her palms behind her, using them as support. She studied the few bits of hopskotch she had so far, trying to figure what else she could add to the game to make it more thrilling.

OOC: Excuse the lack of purdiness, hurr. :U Haven't made any purdy things for little Ming's posts yet.
Dong-Ming was out on his daily walk, ah the air here was so soothing! All of a sudden he saw Alette, one of the girl surfers standing on the side-walk in deep thought. 'What is she doing?' the young designer wondered, curious about his neighbor's doing. She then grabbed a chalk from the bucket next to her filled with others and began to draw on the ground, he walked up and watched her quietly. It roughly reminded me of a game he's seen the kids around here play. ”Are you drawing a jomping game?” he asked suddenly, his accent thick and messing his words up. The sun was blistering on his back, even though he wore a light, cotton white shirt and some jean shorts.
”What does the thwee mean?” He tilted his head, the whole thing confused him and made little sense, it started out looking like that game those kids played but really it also looked like something else.. something completely different. He watched as she diligently finished it then once after using many colors and doing many things and using a lot of numbers, she peered at the sky then back at her master piece.
Without thinking about it Dong-Ming began to follow the arrows, as he did so he began to be reminded more and more of those exercises his friend was forever doing. 'But she doesn't draw? She surfs,' he was confused, 'Americans are different.' This was new for him to experince. ”What does the thwee-sixty mean? Like the... game console?” He heard a dog barking and some kids laughing, looking over his shoulder across the street a couple of kids were playing frisbee with their dog. Dong-Ming couldn't help but to smile.

an unexpected question soon became directed to alette. her body twitched, having not even realized someone stood behind her. defensively, alette clutched the piece of chalk in her hands (as if that was going to save her life if the person behind her was about to murder her), and slowly turned around. it brought her solace to see the person standing behind her someone sort of familiar to her, a student at the university. the best thing about being born and raised on ehu island was that everyone knew everyone because even if you didn't know everyone, you knew someone who knew that one person who you didn't know, and that person was probably mentioned to you before. it was a simple, yet extremely complication, social web. the person before alette was a student at the arts academy.
"ya ya ya!" she exclaimed with a soft chuckle, happy to share her game with someone. especially someone who seemed to be unfamiliar with this game. "this kine game called hopskotch, brah." she turned back to her game, finishing the "360!" she had written on the ground. she laughed when soon dong-min mentioned the game console. "oh, no no no, bruddah. it's a little different…" her eyes lit up at the confusion. it was so interesting that something so common-sense to alette was not to someone whose first language wasn't hers. "this kine 360 means one complete turn. a three hundred and sixty degree turn, you feel it? like this!" alette demonstrated, making a complete turn. "and a half-turn is a one eighty. you try that one!" she winked. alette loved playing teacher; then again, that was why she was one.
"you ever play a game of hopskotch before? dis kine real fun. not 'da boring kine bruddahs normally play," even though her game wasn't complete, she decided to at least demonstrate to give soon an idea of the game. "so, you jump like dis on da one, wid' only one leg 'cos there's only one numbah. when 'dere's two numbahs beside each oddah, you can put one foot on one numbah and one foot on da oddah. so for this one, you no can put both feet down. make sense?" alette went through the rest of her hopskotch game, and then turned back to soon dong-min, resting both hands on her waist. "you wan' try, brah?" alette used one hand to gesture to the small hopskotch layout she had thus far. "you can try helping me build this hopskotch maze too. i wan' da real intricate kine game. where most people no can finish."

Doon-Ming watched as she demonstrated what the three-sixty meant and then she asked him to do a one-eighty. So he attempted it by turning half-way and stopping. It made more sense this way, for the number to mean a turn.
"Hopsketch.." 'So that is how you say it!' Americans always had things that were new to learn. "you ever play a game of hopskotch before? dis kine real fun. not 'da boring kine bruddahs normally play," Alette asked him, and he raised an eyebrow surprised. "so, you jump like dis on da one, wid' only one leg 'cos there's only one numbah. when 'dere's two numbahs beside each oddah, you can put one foot on one numbah and one foot on da oddah. so for this one, you no can put both feet down. make sense?"
As she jumped and demonstrated what she was saying Dong-Ming soon noticed how it was the same but different as how the kids do it. "Yes, it does." He smiled at her, she was a care-free and laid-back person, someone many not only wanted to be but loved to be around.
"Okay, I will try, ret me know if I do it wrong, okay?" He grinned, excited to play the game. It's been a while since he's played an out-doors and side-walk game. Besides, helping to design this should help give him ideas. He looked at the game that was displayed out before him for a few seconds, judging how he should go about it then jumped onto the first number, one, then went after the arrow and followed it and then made his way to the swirly circle and did the three-sixty turn then got confused at the "trick move!" part.
"Wrat do I do now?" he asked confused. He blinked, as he wobbled on one thin leg.

"no worries brah, i'll let you know," she assured him, glad that someone was willing to give her layout a test run - even if it wasn't complete. alette watched doon-ming with her hands clasped together. she watched as he stopped right before the "trick move!" part of her hopskotch course. of course, alette couldn't help but let out a giggle when she saw him oh-so-dedicatedly stand with one leg in the air.
"it means you can do whatever you want on dis part. you know how bruddahs on dem skateboards or surfboards will do funky tricks? they'll grab da nose of da board or someting li'dat. dis part is for you to show off whatever phat moves you've got!" soonafter, alette realized her slang might be a linguistical barrier, but decided to wait that part out. "someting li'dis." alette jumped up, throwing her feet behind her, and grabbing both of them, quickly releasing them so she wouldn't faceplant into the ground. "or dis," alette did the classic michael jackson moonwalk, and with swagger softly slid her feet backwards, laughing at herself as she did so. still laughing a bit, she managed to say, "really, it's wot-evah you want!"
she positioned herself so that she was once again facing doon-ming. "d'you wanna try a trick move, dong-min?" she asked. "i'd like to see wot you koreans got up those tiny sleeves of yours." alette winked as she pointed her pointer finger at dong-min, clicking her tongue. "and then, we can continue the hopskotch course! i bet you've got some creative ideas in that head of yours." the female grabbed a piece of chalk and sat on the somewhat damp grass, crossing her legs much like an indian. she couldn't wait to see this trick move! this was definitely her favorite part of her own hopskotch courses - seeing what people decided to do on this trick move part. some people hesitated and did boring maneuvers, while others really knew how to impress their audience with ease. alette, of course, gave credit to those who tried to impress, but didn't really accomplish it very smoothly; at least they tried!

"So, rike dancing?" He nodded, he could try even thought he was definitely not the best dancer. Actually, Dong-Min was an average dancer, sure he could do it decently well but not as good as guys in those bands. "I can try!" He dropped his leg down gently and pushed himself backwards so he flipped through the air, as soon as his feet touched the ground he shifted his body weight and slid his leg around in a circle and dropped to the ground and did an up-rock move, thus throwing himself back to his feet.
"Um... How was dat? Is that what you meant?" His hair was now sticking up more on end than it was before and he wiped his forehead. "That is from back in crass. In Korea, I'm not very good," he laughed a little. 'I hope I did it not too much,' he said he then sat down next to her but with his legs pulled underneath him and also grabbed a piece of chalk.
'Wow, that was a bit fun. Ye, I rike hopsketch! A rot.' He smiled at the thought and wrote on the side-walk, out of the way in Korean, ”Trick move! Dance!” He pointed at the characters after he was done and told her, ”That means trick move! Dance! Doing those tricks on boards is rike dancing. Trick moves are fun,” he grinned up at the blond haired girl, excited about this. It was going to be very fun playing this game of hopsketch with her!
”I have an idea, wrat if we have to won won-eighty then another the other way, and after dat we have to do jumps, a few in a row?” Alette's enthusiasm was contagious to say the least, Dong-Min was just about as excited as her about this game!

ooc: 'fo = to in pidgin
alette clapped her hands, even jumping a little, as dong-min broke out his skills. "oh my goodness! yeah! wow, dong-min, you koreans have it going on. where-you learn how 'fo do that?" she clasped her hands together, leaning slightly in as she waited for his response. "do they teach 'dat to you in school? you gotta be kiddin' me if they do! that's so tight. alette grabbed a chalk, and then threw her arms up in the air, gesturing as she spoke. "you gots 'fo show all dem at school. do you ever dance at the academy?" dancing was, at one point, everything to alette, and she couldn't deny it: she loved the crew of dancers that ehu island produced. "or are you too modest?" she winked and stuck out her tongue.
as dong-min suggested ideas for the hop-skotch, alette nodded her head. "that sounds like a great idea, brah! let's do it. you can add whatever you like to what i draw. designs, whatevah." she kneeled down onto her hands and knees and then started adding to the "course." alette drew a long arrow after the trick move, realizing she had to give people space to do their thang. at the end of the arrow she drew a one-eighty like dong-ming suggested. in a circle, she drew an arrow in the direction they had to turn. after that, alette drew a four and five beside each other. "do you want to draw a few things?" she asked. alette crawled forward a few spaces, giving dong-min room to work.

Dong-min was a bit surprised she enjoyed it so much, it was a very small phase of a routine he had learned just the year he came to America. "Do they teach 'dat to you in school? you gotta be kiddin' me if they do! That's so tight." He laughed, school? Not in class but it was definitely something that everyone did to pass the time.. well not everyone, but most people.
"Sort of," he replied, "We all do it for fun, we rike to dance there. It's easy to pass times dancin'."
"you gots 'fo show all dem at school. do you ever dance at the academy?" she said as she threw her arms above her head. He blinked, show them!? Most of them were better than him at it! "or are you too modest?" His face reddened as she winked and stuck her tongue out at him playfully.
'American girls are different,' he thought to himself. "Heh, no I do not dance at re academy. Actuary, I do not dance often. That was from just before I reft Korea and came here, to EHU." The way he pronounced EHU sounded more like 'achoo.' Realizing how silly it sounded coming from him he laughed to himself gently. "Ye, I do not dance often. Yet, dancin' is fun. I can't keep up for a rong time, rike others. I'm srower."
She began to draw as he talked on and on, then she asked him after he finished, "do you want to draw a few things?" He nodded and got down near her and drew a line and wrote in English, follow, jump! Then at the end there was a medium sized star, big enough to get one foot in the middle. Land he wrote again in English. This was on the opposite side of what she was drawing, that way they had to choose on side or the other. Perhaps, he could make that into a dead-end and that would mean for them to find a way to backtrack.
"We could have this as dead-end. Where it stops, but in order to not rose, they would go backwards again and re-do it," he suggested.
